Fernweh

Fernweh poster with laurels on

RTs 2019 winner in animation craft

'Fernweh' is a short animation I made during my 3rd year at university. It is a 2D animation printed onto paper, cut out and overlaid on a Stop Motion set. Fernweh is a German word with no direct translation into English. To simplify it, it is like the opposite of homesickness. It is the deep yearning to be somewhere else. I made this animation to be a visual translation of the word.

'Fernweh' got nominated for two categories at the RTS Yorkshire Student Awards 2019 (The first animation to be nominated for two categories in the university's history) and won the Animation Craft Award. It was also awarded Runner-Up at the SIA Degree Show Awards 2018 as well as showing at festivals all round the world.

Blind panic

Blind Panic Film Poster

Winner at SIA Degree show 2019

'Blind Panic' is a short animation created for my 4th and final year at university. It is a digital hand-drawn 2D animation. Blind Panic is about two girls called Denise and Yasmine having a sleepover and watching scary movies when a storm cuts the electricity in the house. The girls must venture down to the basement and find what's lurking there in order to turn the fusebox back on again!

This animation won at the 2019 SIA Degree Show awards and has played at festivals all round the world (But mainly in Spain interestingly!).
